Past Weather Science Classes

Weather is science that hits you right in the face when you walk out the door! In these class students learned how the elements of weather: air, water and heat interact to create our climate and the day to day changes in our atmosphere.  Severe weather events and how to stay safe were covered. Topics and content were tailored according to the students' ages.

 Hawaiian Skies Classes!

We focused on Ua (rain) in our first class and our second class was  Ka Makani (wind).

With the same format we explored the science of wind: atmospheric pressure, global and local winds. Then we will investigate the role the jet stream plays in our seasons, trade winds and the dispersal of animal and plants to our islands.  Wind's significant role in Hawaiian culture: The Wind Gourd of La‘amaomao,  Maui's kite and more. And yes, there are more than 600 Hawaiian names for wind.  Finally, we discuss the impact of wind: hurricanes, straight line winds and tornados and water spouts. Learn all this and more in our class through data collection, discussions, hands-on activities and cooperative group work.
